Johnny Cocoa is one of the few artists that I have yet to have a conversation with, but I hope to work with him in the future. Johnny bursted onto the music scene in Beaumont, TX around the year 2020 when he released the music video for his first single "Thuggin By My Lonely." The melody and his natural tone of voice captured listeners ears almost instantaneously. His singing voice is reminiscent of Lloyd and his flows remind me of the type of raps that Russ likes to spit.
Johnny Cocoa's first project was an EP titled "To The World" and was a true-to-self introduction of what he brings to the world of music. Johnny seems to be a shy, talented kid who loves to watch anime. The debut EP is even closed out with a short ballad track called "Letters From Itachi." Johnny Cocoa has also stated in interviews that Naruto is one of his favorite shows. It's refreshing to have a rapper/singer that is not afraid to just whole-heartedly be themselves instead of trying to become what people expect him to be.
Johnny Cocoa's latest project is a 9 track album called "I Am Who I Am" and I must say that every track on this body of work could be a solid single. Johnny seems to have developed considerably while recording these songs, and is now leaning heavily into creating very captivating melodies for each track. He also inlists great videographers such as the likes of Trill Art and O Shot You Films to create substantial visuals to go alongside his lyrically smooth songs. I'll definitely keep following Johnny Cocoa and hopefully I'll get to provide him with some type of visuals one of these days.
