It seems that if a rapper wants to be respected then one of their main goals has to be making a name for themselves within their hometown. Oti$ (aka Budda bka King Oti$) has cemented himself as a musically unstoppable force, and as an artist from Port Arthur that refuses to go unrecognized. Being a member of the hip-hop collective "4/5," which includes rappers K Justafied, GP4/5, DeeKay Longevity, and the late great J-Dubb, it's easy to understand how an artist could get lost in the sauce. Oti$, being one of the members of the group who didn't seek the spotlight at first, was still able to eventually build a loyal fanbase for himself. One thing you'll come to realize in this article is that when Oti$ decides to take a beat from a mainstream artist, it's no joke. He makes a solid statement every time regardless of the topic, and Port Arthur always follows his wave!
He probably doesn't remember this but my first time meeting Oti$ was a very long time ago at the Lamar Port Arthur college campus. He was with J-Dubb working on music in the computer room and he was telling stories about how fans were reacting to the song he had recently released. The song was a track he recorded over J.Cole's "Let Nas Down" instrumental and it was titled "Bernard Freeman vs the City of Port Arthur." He explained that many people thought he was crazy to drop a diss record toward UGK legend Bun B as a Port Arthur artist, but he didn't see the song as a diss. He believed he was just speaking his mind on the track. Well in the long run it turned out to be a genius move by Oti$ because after the song was shared by NBA legend Stephen Jackson (aka Stak5), Bun B himself heard the song and shared it via his social media. As a Port Arthur rapper a cosign from a UGK member is as big as it gets.
Oti$ was later featured alongside J-Dubb & K Justafied on the song "I'm So Port Arthur" which was recorded over Lil Wayne's "Hollyweezy" instrumental. The video was filmed by Trill Art, and the song quickly became a huge street anthem for PA natives. It was even at one point used as the unofficial fight song for the Port Arthur Memorial football team. Another hit for Oti$. He then ventured outside of the official 4/5 camp and linked up with rapper Nu C to drop a song titled "00:45:00" which was a remake of Rico Nasty's "Hey Arnold." Oti$ enlisted Trill Art once again for the visual which featured the rappers in an ice cream truck, partying with models on the memorial stadium football field with captivating line drawing effects laced throughout the video. Oti$' young fans loved the track so much they begged to hear him link up with Nu C more often. This sparked Oti$ to put together his own group outside of the 4/5 umbrella. The group would be called The Too Cool Movement and featured artists Nu C, Kilo, VaughnNotVon, Yola, & Whip The Rapper. Sadly, Oti$ would later go on to be arrested and serve jail time for well over a year. Although, since his release in 2022, Oti$ has hit the ground running giving us some fire new music to listen to.
Oti$ recently released a brand new single that actually features the UGK legend that he dissed earlier in his career, Bun B. The track is called "Durag," and it features a smooth/classical beat produced by Hiii Coop. Oti$ and Bun B trade lines back & forth throughout the song, showcasing how Oti$ has elevated to the point where he can go bar for bar with the best of the best. We can tell that Oti$ is well on the road to becoming a PA legend himself, and for those who are just hearing of him for the first time...Don't worry you can start your research with the video below!
